Thousands Still Without Power in Westlake

It looks like the number of FirstEnergy customers without power in Westlake is back up. 

The number of power outages because of this week's storm had dropped to about 4,300 as of 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, but had risen to 7,700 as of 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday.

The city has some information about the power outages on its website. According to the city’s notice, FirstEnergy’s first priority is repairing down power lines and the second is restoring power. 

Mark Durbin, spokesperson for FirstEnergy, spoke with Beachwood Patch on Tuesday, saying that most customers should have their power restored by the end of the week, but some could see delays until the weekend. 

With that in mind, some local businesses and organizations are trying to help out residents. Here’s a short list—if you know of others, add them in the comments. I’ll verify it and then add it to the list.

• The Westlake Porter Public Library will be staying open an extra hour today until 10 p.m. A representative from the library said they would be showing movies for kids and adults all day.
• Westlake’s Verizon store at 30171 Detroit Rd. will be offering free charging stations and coffee and doughnuts, reports News Channel 5.
