Spring Break Events To Keep The Kids Busy all Week

There's a ton of events this upcoming week at the library for kids, adults and everyone inbetween. Some require reservations, so make like the bunny and hop on it!

Upcoming events at Westlake Porter Public Library.

Movies @ Your Library—Head to the library on spring break for some cool movies. All ages welcome. In accordance with library policy children under age 9 must be with adult. Please register starting March 26. Movies go from 2-3:30 p.m. Scheduled films:

  • Tuesday, April 2: Wreck it Ralph - Video game bad-guy Ralph embarks on an action-packed adventure to prove he’s really a hero.
  • Wednesday, April 4: Frankenweenie - After young Victor loses his beloved dog, he harnesses the power of science to bring him back – with some interesting adjustments!
  • Thursday, April 7: Welcome to Hotel Transylvania, Dracula’s lavish resort where monsters and their families can live it up, and no humans are allowed!

 Tuesday, April 2 (7-8 p.m.) and Saturdays, April 13 and 27 (2:30-3:30 p.m.) Brick Builders Club – Love those LEGO bricks? Then bring your ideas and imagination to the club! All bricks provided. Ages 6-13. Registration begins one week before each session.

Tuesday, April 2 (7:30-8:45 p.m.) FYI Opera—David Bamberger from the Cleveland Institute of Music Opera Theater and students will present a free opera program hosted by the Westlake Westshore Arts Council.

Wednesdays, April 3, 10 and 17 (10:15-10:45 a.m. or 11-11:30 a.m.) Let’s Sing and Dance! — Join us for a fun session of singing and dancing for children ages 2-6 with a caregiver. Space is limited, so please arrive early enough to receive a ticket at the Preschool Desk.

Wednesday, April 3 (1-2:30 p.m.) Cuyahoga West Genealogical Society—Stuck on your genealogical research? Not sure how to get started? Stop by for a free Help Session!

Wednesdays, April 3, 10 and 17 (4-5 p.m.) Books with Bella — What do you get when you bring children, dogs and books together? You get happy, confident children who love reading! Stop by the Youth Services Department each Wednesday and sign your child up for a 15-minute reading time with Bella the Bulldog! Bring your own book to share with Bella or choose one of ours.

Wednesday, April 3 (7-7:30 p.m.) Junior Brick Builders!—For our younger builders! Let's build with Duplos and have lots of fun playing and creating! Bring your imagination and we'll provide the Duplo bricks. For ages 3-5 only, please! Registration begins April 1.

Thursday, April 4 (5-6 p.m.) Duct Tape Flowers for Teens—There are so many fun things to make with duct tape! This time around we're going to transform this bright and colorful tape into flower pins, barrettes, and pencils! Grades 6-12. Please register.

Fridays, April 5 and 19 (10-10:45 a.m.) Come Play With Me! —Open playtime with age-appropriate toys, songs and rhymes. For children ages 2-5 with a caring adult. Registration begins one week before each program.

Friday, April 5 (Toddler session: 10:30-11 a.m.; Preschool session: 11:30 a.m.-Noon) Music Therapy & More—Connecting for Kids and the Music Therapy Enrichment Corps invite you to a music therapy group. Learn how parents and caregivers have a direct role in bringing music to life. The toddler session is geared for children under 3. The preschool session is geared for children ages 3-6 (siblings are welcome). Caregiver must stay in the room. No registration required.

Friday, April 5 (3-4:45 p.m.) Teen Movie—Drop in for snacks and a movie! Based on a novel written by Stephen Chbosky, the movie is about 15-year-old Charlie coping with first love, the suicide of his best friend, and his own mental illness while struggling to find a group of people with whom he belongs. Rated PG-13. No registration required.

Saturdays, April 6 and 13 (10 a.m.-2 p.m.) Crafts A Go-Go! — Come on in and make a craft! We provide the supplies - you provide the creativity. No registration necessary. Meets in front of the Youth Services Desk.

Saturday, April 6 (10:30-11:30 a.m.) and Friday, April 19 (1:30-2:30 p.m.) Kids in Motion Sensory Time— Join us for stories, activities, music and more! Program consists of a 30-minute storytime followed by a 30-minute social-sharing time for the group. No registration required. Program is designed to engage children with autism or other special needs/sensory challenges. Each child must have an adult caregiver.

Saturday, April 6 (1-2:15 p.m.) and Friday, April 26 (11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.) Connecting for Kids Parent Discussion & Facilitated Playgroup— Participate in a discussion group led by a pediatric expert while your children play in a separate room with a CCBDD facilitator. You must RSVP for the playgroup starting one month before each session by calling 440-250-5563. Children do not need a formal diagnosis to attend. Topics listed at connectingforkids.org.

 Saturday, April 6 (2-4 p.m.) Let's Build a Fort!—Drop in between 2 and 4 to help us build a fort in the Storytime Room. Be sure to bring your imagination; all other supplies will be provided!

 Sunday, April 7 (3-4:45 p.m.) Annual Report to the Community—Library Director Andrew Mangels will present the library’s 2012 annual report.
