Police Blotter: Bicentennial Signs Go Missing, Drunk Driver Leads Police on Highway Chase

Bicentennial Signs Go Missing

Since this spring, five Welcome to Westlake signs celebrating the city’s bicentennial have bee taken from various locations at the city limits. The signs are valued at $176 each and are sized either 42 inches by 36 inches or 30 inches by 28 inches. If anyone has information on where they might be, contact the Westlake Police Department at 440-871-3311.

School Rivalry Suspected As Cause for Rock Through Car Window

After the , someone threw a rock at a car driven by a 17-year-old Bay Village boy. The victim, driving a 2003 Chevrolet Blazer, suspects the incident has something to do with a group of boys that had taunted him earlier. The Westlake School Resrouce officer is following up to try to identify the suspect.

Drunk Driver Leads Police on Highway Chase

A 25-year-old Chagrin Falls man led Westlake and Rocky River officers on a chase along Interstate 90 East from Clague Road to Interstate 490 at about 3:30 a.m. Sept. 3. A Westlake officer signaled the man to stop after seeing him weave on the road, make an improper turn and make a turn without signaling. Instead of pulling over, the man sped off, reaching 120 mph. The suspect gave up at about East 55th Street. Police charged him with driving under the influence, blood alcohol content for blowing a .168, weaving, improper lane use, fleeing, speeding, and willful and wanton disregard of safety. The man was released Sept. 6 after a court order to abstain from drugs and alcohol, forbade him to drive and required him to wear an alcohol-detection bracelet.

Break-In At Friendly’s

A employee arriving for work at about 4:15 a.m. Sept. 5 found that a window had been broken, and an interior door was damaged. A cash drawer was damaged as well, but nothing was missing. Repairs are estimated at $430. Police have no suspects.
