Hazardous Waste Roundup This Week

Get rid of items that don't go out with the trash

Get a head start on your fall housecleaning this week by getting rid of hazardous household waste.

The City of Westlake is holding its fall Household Hazardous Waste Round-Up starting Monday, Sept. 10, and running through Saturday, Sept. 15.

Hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 10 through 14, and 7:30 a.m. to noon Sept. 15. The collection is being held at the city's Service Center at 741 Bassett Road.

The round-up is for Westlake residents only. Items from businesses, churches and organizations will not be accepted.

What can you bring? Here's a list.

Paint and related products: Oil- or solvent-based paints, sealers, primers, varnishes, shellacs, coatings, polyurethanes, paint thinner, mineral spirits, turpentine and spray paint.

Household items: Caustic household cleaners (such as oven cleaners, muriatic acid and drain cleaner), automotive fluids, motor oil, car batteries, mercury/fluorescent light bulbs, lighter fluid, gasoline, kerosene, driveway sealer, adhesives, roof tar.

Indoor/outdoor chemicals: Pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, fungicides.

What's not allowed? Latex paint, medical waste, medication, smoke detectors, radioactive waste, tires, electronics, explosives, gunpowder, flares, ammunition and appliances.

I think Enterprise was going to move there, since BMW is moving to where Enterprise is.
