Flood Watch in Effect Through Late Tuesday

A low pressure system is moving north.

The National Weather Service in Cleveland has issued a Flood Watch for portions of north central Ohio and Northwest including Cuyahoga and Lorain counties.

Westlake has experience significant this year, including basements.

According to the NWS, low pressure will develop over the Tennessee Valley today before moving north toward the Cleveland area and surrounding counties tonight. Low pressure will move to Northern Ohio Tuesday and Tuesday night before moving to the northeast Wednesday. Rainfall amounts across the area are expected to range between one and a half to two inches with potential for higher amounts.

The NWS noted this season’s rainfall has already fully saturated the ground. The additional rainfall tonight through early Wednesday can cause additional flooding of rivers and creeks as well as nearby areas. Flooding of low lying areas is also possible.

What is a flood watch?*

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. Residents should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
