Emilie Krause Celebrated on 105th Birthday

Family came from out of state to see their "Oma" at Brighton Gardens.

Emilie Krause, a resident at , celebrated her 105th birthday on Thursday surrounded by family, fellow residents, and staff.

The party was part of the "Gift of a Day" program with Crossroads Hospice. It's about giving a hospice patient the best day they can have.

Like other birthday parties, there was cake and balloons. One of the other residents led the singing of "Happy Birthday."

Grandson Anthony Pariano came down from Ann Arbor, Mich., and brought his sons, Joe and Nick, to see their great-grandmother, who goes by Oma, the German name for Grandma.

Pariano said his grandmother's strong will, love for her family and an appetite for life has brought her this far.

He also gave credit to his mom, Juanita. Krause has been at Brighton Gardens since 2007, and Juanita Pariano comes to see her just about every day.

"She takes good care of Oma, and keeps her as engaged as she can," he said.
