Celebrate The Legacy Of Dr. King

Several area events will commemorate the life of the Nobel Peace Prize winner.

All around Northeast Ohio, people will be celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during the holiday weekend. Here are several area events to commemorate the life and work of the civil rights leader, humanitarian and activist.

 Sunday

  • The West Shore Unitarian Universalist Church, 20401 Hilliard Blvd. in Rocky River, will host a Sunday service titled “Resistance, Propehcy & Liberation” from 9:30 - 11:15 a.m. Intern Minister Ellen Carvill-Zeimer will lead the service, examining liberation and resistance.
  • In Elyria, Second Baptist Church, 427 Chapman Lane, is hosting “Let the Music Ring,” a Martin Luther King musical at 6 p.m. For more information, call 440-322-6063.

  • Kids ages 3-8 years old can celebrate the life of Martin Luther King Jr. with their families at the Bay Village branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library. The hour-long Peace Explorers program begins at 11 a.m. with a story, followed by activity stations with art, music and more. Registration is required so visit this site or call 440-871-6392 to reserve a spot.
  • The Elyria High School Performing Arts Center, 601 Middle Ave., will present “The Power of One An Army of Many!” at 11 a.m. The multimedia dramatization is open to all. A commemorative precedes the entertainment at 10:30 a.m. from Ely Square to Elyria High School. Afterwards, there will be a community education fair from 12:30-2 p.m. in the performing arts center lobby.
