American Red Cross In Need Of Blood Donations

Winter storms forced the Red Cross to cancel donation drives.

The latest winter onslaught not only closed schools, libraries and businesses in the area. But it also cancelled blood drives that provide much-needed donations to the American Red Cross.

The American Red Cross’s Northern Ohio Blood Services was forced to cancel 10 local drives that would have collected an estimated 360 pints of blood. The Cleveland chapter supports 57 hospitals throughout 19 counties.

“We’re a national system, so in times of need we can look to other regions to bring in help if we need them,” said Katy Berger, spokesperson for American Red Cross Northeast Ohio Blood Services. “The problem is that half of the country was affected by this weather. It’s getting to be more difficult since more areas are affected."
