Pining for Pinterest

A site to pin all of your virtual ideas? Amazing! Check out Pinterest— you will not be disappointed.

Have you heard about Pinterest? I hope so. Otherwise, you need to get out more. I kid, I kid.

Lately, when I make a new dinner for my family and it is delicious (which is always if you ask me, mostly if you ask my husband, and rarely if you ask the kids— “this yucky mommy”), my husband does not even have to ask where I got the recipe. He knows about Pinterest. If you are a busy mom like me (or not a mom or not busy, which is okay too— more time for pinning), this site allows you to categorically (hello my type-A anal retentive personality’s dream) save websites/recipes/ideas/kid stuff/fashion/really anything on to your own personal boards for later use— thereby “pinning” ideas.

Mostly, I use Pinterest for meal planning. I have yet to be disappointed by the recipes or the food blogs I have found through this site. You can pin items from your own searches on the Internet, use the search function (which is not the most technologically advanced function to Pinterest), or you can just follow all of your friends (through your contacts or Facebook) and “cheat” off their pins (which is usually always what I do.)

I have been using Pinterest for several months. I got great creative ideas for moving Bob, our Elf on the Shelf, during Christmas. I got awesome Halloween craft and snack ideas during October. I found fabulous Thanksgiving side dish recipes. Also, I was able to locate adorable ladybug decorations and food ideas for my daughter’s first birthday party (including cute cracker appetizers that looked like ladybugs.) The list goes on and on.

It is so funny, now, if a friend of mine does something creative or makes something tasty or visa-versa I do, we always look at one another with a questioning look and ask “Pinterest?” Really, this site has changed my family’s eating habits and scored us some awesome tips. Check it out at pinterest.com
