This week has some of the best events of summer, like the State Fair, live music on Whiskey Island, and the musical Chicago performed by the Lorain Community Music Theater. Public ice skating is a great alternative to ice cream or the beach and Battle of the Bands at the library could be a fun family diversion. Get outside and partake in all of the unique things going on this week!
Where/When: Winterhurst Arena in Lakewood/ Wednesday and Thursday 12 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Friday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Why go: When you climb into your 100-degree car, you just wish it were winter already. It has been incredibly hot outside so beat the heat by ice-skating! Winterhurst Arena hosts public ice-skating most days of the week. And this can be a fun place for a family outing or a romantic date! Ice-skating is a nice way to cool off without going to the pool.
Where/When: / Friday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Why go: Come see Westlake’s best teen bands perform outside in a Battle of the Bands competition! Bands including Dempsey Hall, Krych Sisters, Lumpia, The Sludge, Texting While Driving, and The Triptyx will be rocking out this Friday. And no worries, if it rains the event will move indoors to the Porter Room.
Where/When: Stocker Humanities and Fine Arts Building in the Main Theater at Lorain County Community College/ Thursday, Friday & Saturday at 7:30 p.m., Sunday at 2 p.m.
Why go: Lorain Community Music Theater presents Chicago, a flashy musical set in the Jazz Age, the 1920s. Ticket prices are very reasonable at $16 for adults and $14 for children, students, and seniors. This is a great change of pace from the average dinner and a movie!
Where/When: Whiskey Island/ Friday and Saturday 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., Sunday 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Why go: Cats on Holiday, a Cajun and blues band will be performing Friday, The Ark Band, a reggae group, will be performing Saturday, and Blue Lunch, a blues band, will be performing Sunday. Come enjoy live music, a delicious bar and grill, and beach volleyball on Whiskey Island, which overlooks Lake Erie. It can be your own family vacation right here in Cleveland!
Where/When: Columbus/ Wednesday through Aug. 7
Why go: The state fair in Columbus isn’t too bad of a drive, about two and a half hours, and it’s full of events, games, music, food, competitions, entertainment, and rides. The fair will have livestock, arts and crafts, and even concerts. Brad Paisley will be performing on the last day! But the state fair is packed full of events every day, not just the opening and closing days. Dogs, horses, pigs, and rabbits will all be competing as well. This fair is definitely worth the drive!
