Our Favorite New Businesses that Opened in 2010

Say hello to the city's new businesses and say farewell to a few, too.

In the face of a still-chill economic climate, new retail and restaurants continued to open in Westlake in 2010, especially at the red-hot Crocker Park lifestyle center.

Here are some notable joiners to the landscape:

Charming Charlie, 172 Crocker Park Blvd. -- It's all about color and accessories at this spacious boutique at Crocker Park. Think youngish fashion jewelry, handbags, belts and scarves that will complete any look.

Just Dogs! Gourmet30323 Detroit Road, Promenade -- Forget kid in a candy store. Think puppy in canine heaven. This new shop features four lines of exclusive dog treats for your four-legged family member that come in decadent flavors such as coconut, hazelnut and Bavarian cream. Peanut butter cups and truffles are two top-sellers.

Antonio's Pizza25093 Center Ridge Road -- There is a reason why Drew Carey ordered 45 of these pizzas to be shipped to Los Angeles for a The Price is Right wrap party. A Cleveland institution since 1967, Antonio's opened its Westlake location in April.

New Balance30167 Detroit Road at Promenade -- Athletic footwear abounds at this shoe shop, which features designs for running and cross-training as well as apparel, outerwear and accessories.

Danny Vegh's Billiards & Home, 167 Market St. at Crocker Park -- Everything you could ever need to create an ideal home entertainment area, such as pool tables, barstools, theater seats, popcorn poppers, poker tables, arcade games, air hockey, foosball, and lighting.

Spoon Me, 30159 Detroit Road, Promenade -- Guilt-free dessert is not an oxymoron at this frozen yogurt establishment, which prides itself on selling smoothies that are good for the body. No ice, no fat, no table sugars, completely gluten-free and of course, completely yummy. You can even enjoy live music while you spoon.

Post mortem

It's sad but true. The following stores closed up shop in 2010:

Steve Madden, Indigo Nation and Smith & Hawken all left storefronts at Crocker Park.

And the kitchen was permanently closed at Clubhouse Grille, Panos and Frank & Pauly's.
