Poll: Preserve or Demolish?

Do you agree with the demolition of mom-and-pop shops to make way for new business in Westlake?

Another one bites the dust.

The Wyatt Tractor and Mower business, which has operated several buildings at 2726 Dover Center Rd. since 1946, is closed and will soon be torn down to make way for a Speedway gas station, according to the Sun News.

To finalize the deal, the land – leased by Wyatt owner Craig Cowen – was sold to Marathon Gas Co.

, which was open for 105 years in Westlake, recently had to close its doors as well. An Ace Hardware will soon move into Westlake to fill the hardware demand, but not at the same location as the old Ingersoll's.

With two old businesses gone and two new corporate businesses springing up, Westlake Patch would like to get your opinion.

Should the Westlake community and its leaders make more of an effort to preserve and sustain mom-and-pop shops like these, or should the city be more focused on new business development?
