According to a letter obtained by the newspaper, the CEO said customers thought the Foodperks program was "a little too complex." The program gave customers a 1 percent discount on groceries for every 10 gallons of gas purchased at GetGo gas stations.

Customers were queried at checkout if they would like to redeem Foodperks or save the discount for future use.

Foodperks began in 2009.

Giant Eagle's popular Fuelperks program will remain and expand. Fuelperks gives customers 10 cents to 20 cents off a gallon (depending on specials) for every $50 spent. Fuelperks are redeemable at GetGo gas stations, including one in Westlake.

According to Pittsburgh's wpxi.com, under the expanded program, GetGo customers will receive 3 cents off per gallon even if they don't have any Fuelperks discounts accumulated.

Giant Eagle is located at 30275 Detroit Rd. In Westlake. GetGo , which opened in 2012, is located at 27210 Center Ridge Rd.
