Flying Dogs, Ice Cream Social, a Charity Golf Tournament and More!
Get out this weekend to see DockDogs, share a $1 sundae with a friend or tee off for a good cause.
There are lots of events going on this week, several which will get you outside exercising. . . also one that lets the dogs do all the work. But for the air conditioning lovers there’s also a free movie, an ice cream social, and a musical at the Beck Center. Read on to find out what your neighbors will be doing this week:
Where/When: / Friday 1 p.m. to Sunday 6 p.m.

Why go: These dogs will be flying through the air as they compete in dock jumping! Buckeye DockDogs love the water and will jump amazing distances to retrieve a toy. Competitions will have dogs swimming and splashing. Don’t miss this unique event at Crocker Park.

Where/When: Downtown Lakewood/ Saturday 7 p.m.
Why go: Free Lakewood STREETWALK “Active-living” programs will take place between 4-7 p.m., will start at 6 p.m. along with registration for the race, which starts at 7 p.m. Pre-race registration will be available online until 9 a.m. on Friday and is $20 (includes t-shirt). Race-day registration is $25. The post-race party is open to all runners and non-runners and will have live entertainment, a beer garden, and food. There is no admission fee. Awards will be given out to the top three males and females in 11 age categories.
SECOND ANNUAL CHARITY GOLF CLASSIC
Where/When: Emerald Woods Golf Course/ Registration by Saturday, Tournament on July 30
Why go: This charity golf tournament raises money for five elementary schools in Parma. Individual entry fee is $75 a person and team entry fee is $300, which includes 18 holes of golf, cart rental, three meals, and prizes.
This four-person, best-ball tournament also includes some individual contests like longest drive, closest to the pin, and hole-in-one. The top three teams will also be rewarded with a prize. Call Rom at 216-749-5920 for more information.
Where/When: Capitol Theatre/ 10 a.m. Saturday (Doors open at 9:30 a.m.)
Why go: This free movie will be a fun family outing. How to Train Your Dragon is a DreamWorks animated movie with a cute story line. Capitol Theatre is also a really cool place to check out. It has been newly renovated and now shows both box office films and independent films.
Where/When: Beck Center for the Arts, 17801 Detroit Ave. in Lakewood, 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, 3 p.m. on Sunday
Why go: The Beck Center always puts on a great show, not to mention that Hairspray is full of fun music, 60s outfits and outrageous dances. Ticket prices range from $10 to $28, and because it’s a small theater, it’s impossible to get a bad seat. The show runs through Aug. 14, so get your ticket sooner than later! It’s easy to sell out a small theater performing a popular musical.
FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY ANNUAL ICE CREAM SOCIAL
Where/When: / 6-8 p.m. Monday
Why go: What’s better than ice cream, music, putt-putt, and animals? Enjoy ice cream sundaes while listening to the band Big Daddies perform. Also, mini-golf holes will be set up and animals from the Lake Erie Nature and Science Center will be on display. Fun for the entire family!
