Etsy Pinterest and Local Art, Oh My!- Local Art Show Showcases DIY Artists and Crafters

The Do-it-Yourself movement has been all the craze since sites such as Etsy and Pinterest have launched. As a result, a newfound and refound interest in local art has supported the movement.

The Do-it-Yourself movement has been all the craze since sites such as Etsy and Pinterest have launched. A newfound interest, or some would say a re-found interest in the arts and crafts movement, has been popping up all over the Internet and in local communities. One local example of where the inspiration is evident is in Westlake, OH at the Avant-Garde Art & Craft Shows.

The Avant-Garde Art & Craft Shows have been in existence for over a year and have continually grown with the surge in the DIY movement, due in part to the Pinterest and Etsy craze. “I would definitely say there has been a significant peak in the interest in our show line within the past year,” said Becki Cooper, founder of the Avant-Garde Art & Craft Shows. “I think in part, a lot of it has to do with people discovering and falling in love with the Indie and DIY movement. Much of the Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show’s style is what you see on Etsy and sites like Pinterest. By bringing these types of shows locally, it allows customers the opportunity to purchase their favorite trends locally and in person. This is a great alternative because it gives back to our own community and economy.”

Patrons at the show can expect a wide array of goods to purchase including 100% handmade jewelry, home décor items, fine art, food, apparel and much more. The show is $3.00 for admission, and a portion of proceeds will benefit the Cleveland Ohio Animal Protective League for animal rescue.

The site features a blog that showcases in-depth profiles on several of the vendors who will be selling their items. “It’s really an interesting and unique thing to be able to feature our artists and crafters in their own spotlight profiles. So many of them have such interesting stories and how they got into their business, I’d definitely recommend checking them out,” continued Cooper.

The 2012 West Side Summer Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show will take place on Sunday, July 29, 2012 at Wagner’s Country Inn at 30855 Center Ridge Rd., in Westlake, OH from 11:00am-6:00pm.
