St. John Medical Center Cancels 2011 Festival of the Arts

The event will return next year following construction.

Major construction on the campus this summer will force the cancellation of this summer's Festival of the Arts.

The annual arts fair has been going on every July for the last 18 years, attracting thousands of residents from Cleveland's west side.

Part of the facility's five-year, $100 million strategic plan, work on the center and adjoining parking lots will include construction of a clinical decision unit, a post-anesthesia recovery unit and renovations to both entrances. The center also is expanding services, including surgery and endoscopy.

The construction is scheduled to be finished in the fall, allowing the festival to return in 2012, said St. John Medical Center spokesman Patrick Garmone.

Officials did not seek another site for the arts festival, but other events such as North Coast Challenge and Top Chef will be relocated for this year only because of the construction project.

The grounds will be the site of the 2011 North Coast Challenge, a five-mile charity run and three-mile charity walk on Labor Day weekend.

The annual Top Chef fundraiser also will be held off-site this year at a yet-to-be-determined location, Garmone said.
