Lots of Fall Festival Fun and More This Weekend

Don't waste the great weather this weekend!

The city, North Union Farmers Markets and are coming together to celebrate Westlake's bicentennial on Saturday morning. The Farmers Market will open as usual at 9 a.m., with extended hours until 3 p.m.

At 11 a.m., the special programs start with wine tastings, a cooking demonstration by , Life's Little Adventures Petting Farm, pony rides, chalk art, face-painting, antique tractors and live music from Burning River Jazz.

The family-owned farm is celebrating the arrival of fall on their 2-acre pumpkin patch and 1-acre corn maze all month! From noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, you can catch a free hayride out to the patch. The whole festival is free, except a $1 charge per person for the corn maze.

The farm is also offering traditional fall treats like apple fritters, hot cider and popcorn.

39th Annual Woollybear Festival

Head down to Vermillion for one of the biggest parades in the state, and a chance to see legend Dick Goddard. With 15 marching bands, floats, animals, clowns, vintage cars and local radio and TV personalities, the parade is expected to be two hours long, starting at 1:30 p.m. Sunday on Liberty Avenue.

Chaplain Jim Kulma of the Lutheran Home at will be blessing pets from the area at 2:45 p.m. Sunday.

There will be a brief ceremony honoring St. Francis, followed by the blessings. Pets on leashes or in carriers are welcome.

Grateful Dog Bakery is hosting a 3-mile dog walk (with a 1-mile option) starting at the at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, followed by a costume contest and a brunch for both dogs and humans. Dogs are encouraged to come in costume for the pack walk and brunch, and to have their pictures taken. There will also be raffles and nail trimmings by Barking Barbers.

All participants will get a treat bag with goodies for dogs and their owners.

Tickets will be on sale for $15 per person and dog for the walk and brunch, and $10 per pair for brunch only through today. Extra dogs are $5 each and extra people are $10 each. Proceeds will benefit Fido's Companion.
