Fall Season at Huntington Playhouse Opens Thursday

The Foreigner, Sherlock Holmes and Santa Claus are in performance lineup.

What do a man from Avon, Jolly Old St. Nick, a man from out of town and a famous detective have in common? Huntington Playhouse brings them all together in its three new shows this fall season.

Avon resident David MacKeigan will be directing this holiday season's performance of Miracle on 34th Street, and his wife Judy will be coordinating costumes for the play, said Tom Meyrose, managing director at Huntington Playhouse.

“It's a wonder story about a girl who doesn't believe in Santa Claus and a man who claims he is the real Santa Claus,” Meyrose said of the play.

Local residents will have the opportunity to showcase their talents, as auditions for Miracle on 34th Street will be held Sept. 26 and 27 at 7:30 p.m. Performance dates will be Nov. 25 through Dec. 18.

Looking for a good laugh? Huntington Playhouse will be featuring The Foreigner, a comedy about a man who pretends to be a foreigner while at a Georgia fishing lodge. Fellow vacationers believe he doesn't speak or understand English, so they think they can say whatever they want around him, including some funny secrets.

Performance dates for The Foreigner are Sept. 22 through Oct. 9.

Long-time Cleveland west side residents may remember seeing the show at Huntington Playhouse back in 1985, Meyrose said.

Meyrose, who has been with the theater for 39 years, will be playing Dr. Watson in Huntington Playhouse's performance of Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure. Complete with all the wit, drama, and intrigue of a Sherlock Holmes mystery, the play is scheduled for Oct. 20 through Nov. 6.

“These are the last three shows in our 2011 season,” Meyrose said. “We will be announcing our 2012 season when Miracle on 34th Street opens.”

All performances take place at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and at 2 p.m. on Sundays.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for seniors 65 and older on Fridays and Sundays, and $10 for students 18 and under. Flex passes, gift certificates, and group rates are also available.

The box office is open Wednesday through Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. Tickets may be purchased by calling the box office at 440-871-8333. Customers are encouraged to make reservations to get their preferred seats.

Huntington Playhouse is located at 28601 Lake Road in Bay Village and is affiliated with the Cleveland Metroparks.
