Local Art Show Plans to Put Northeast Ohio Art on the Map

PARMA, OH (October 13, 2011) – Supporting local art and Northeast Ohio small businesses has been a passion of Becki Cooper’s since she could remember. Combine that with her love of charity and her PR and event planning background, there you have the birth of the Avant-Garde Art & Craft Shows.

“I’ve had an entrepreneurial spirit at heart for some time now, I started Becki’s Sweet Boutique an out-of-house baking business after taking cake decorating classes at Jo-Ann Fabrics for a few months,” said Cooper. “I noticed that people were really responding to my craft and there was a market for it so I started selling designer cakes, cupcakes and cookies for events, and word spread through referrals and sharing my craft with others.” Not soon after, Cooper came up with the idea to showcase other local artists and their businesses. The process began through the recruitment of handmade vendors on Etsy.com and locally. The overall goal was to give others the same chance to promote their own unique talents locally that might have gotten overlooked otherwise.

In addition to supporting local artists and crafters, Cooper also wanted to give back to her hometown community. As a part-time volunteer for the Northeast Ohio Make-a-Wish Foundation, she decided to donate a portion of the event’s proceeds to the organization.

So far the response to the shows has been positive, in June the first summer show was completed and the organization is on track for an upcoming fall show on Sunday, October 23rd at the Holy Spirit Byzantine Catholic Church in Parma, OH. This event will feature over 65 vendors and is free to the public. In addition, Cooper is already starting to book spots for the winter show to be held in January. To date, Cooper has been in contact with over 415 local artists and crafters to propel the shows forward.

“I’m really hoping to create a brand around the Avant-Garde Art & Craft Shows; my goal is to continue to grow with each show, vendors and size wise and support a local charity at each show,” said Cooper. “The plan is to put on four shows seasonally and really bring local Northeast Ohio artistic talent out of the woodwork. There is a lot of talent in this town and it’s nice that we’re beginning to get noticed for that. It’s a unique and wonderful thing to be surrounded by daily,” said Cooper.

To join in on the conversation regarding the show you don’t have to look very far, if you Google the words Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show, the local event has saturated the online market covering at least the first 10 pages of Google results. In addition, each of the show vendors are showcased in an individual spotlight profile on the organization’s web site www.avantgardeshows.com. Here you will find a detailed profile on each one, featuring individual stories and what inspires them to create. After that, head on over to the Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show (Rebecca Adele Events) facebook page for even more colorful pictures and to view the discussion surrounding the upcoming shows.
