Award-winning 'The Psychic' is Next for Playhouse, Auditions in June

Clague Playhouse has selected its next play.

Clague Playhouse has announced its next play, The Psychic by Sam Bobrick, set to open in September. Auditions are set for mid June. 

The Psychic is the winner of the “Best Play” for the 2011 Mystery Writers of America Edgar Allen Poe Awards. Auditions are Tuesday, June 18 and Wednesday, June 19, both nights at 7:30 p.m. 

The play will run Thursdays through Sundays, Sept. 13 – Oct. 6.

The Playhouse will be auditioning for four men and two women:

  • Webster, a down on his luck mystery writer, who comes across as a bit naïve. (20’s to 30’s);
  • Laura Benson, an attractive woman in her 30’s;
  • Roy Benson - Laura’s husband, deal making businessman (30’s to 40’s); Rita -  Roy’s ditzy mistress (20’s to 30’s); 
  • Johnny Bubbles - Rita’s mobster boyfriend straight out of "Guys and Dolls" (35 to 45); and 
  • Norris Coslow -  a New YorkCity detective (40’s to 50’s).   
The Psychic follows the chaotic life of Adam Webster, a down-on-his-luck writer, who has put a sign in his apartment window, in desperation to make the rent: "Psychic Readings $25."

The sign soon draws the interest of the lovely and conflicted Laura, her shady husband Roy, Roy's mistress Rita, a gangster named Johnny Bubbles and ace Detective Norris Coslow. Actors will be asked to read from the script.

Contemporary comedic monologues are welcomed but not required. Perusal copies of script are available at the Clague Box office for a $10 deposit. Auditions are at the Clague Playhouse, 1371 Clague Road in Westlake. Please bring a current photo or headshot along with your resume.
