Power Outages Darken Westlake, Lakewood, Shaker Heights

Rain turns to ice and wreaks havoc.

Icy conditions have contributed to a series of power outages in several Patch areas on Monday. Particularly hard hit are Lakewood and Shaker Heights.

FirstEnergy spokesperson Mark Durbin said, “We’re hopeful” to get power restored soon, but some areas may not be restored until Tuesday.

About 2,043 Westlake residents were without power according to Karen Goodson, Manager External Affairs for FirstEnergy. As of about 9 a.m. Monday, 4,800 Lakewood customers were without power, Durbin said, and 1,200 Shaker Heights customers were without power.

Westlake Police was reporting sporadic outages throughout the city but urged residents not to call the department with questions about when their power would be restored. FirstEnergy is in "storm mode," according to a disptacher on duty, and they do not update police on estimate time of repairs.

Other areas affected include Beachwood, with about 150 customers without electricity, and Solon with about 120 customers offline. Fairlawn had two customers reporting outages. Twinsburg, Stow and Cuyahoga Falls reported no outages Monday morning.
