Welcome House returns with Gingerbread Lane at Great Northern Mall Sixth Annual Street of Homes will feature Movie-themed gingerbread homes designed by leading local pastry chefs

A magical Cleveland holiday tradition is returning to Great Northern Mall this year.  Gingerbread Lane…an event by Welcome House … is featuring twelve homes by area bakers that reflect movie themes.

Gingerbread Lane will feature more than a dozen of stunningly decorated gingerbread houses.  The display will be located by all of the other holiday traditions that Great Northern has been known for and will be on display from November 16 to December 27.

The homes are being prepared by some of the finest “flour arrangers” in the area – including pastry chefs from Becky Rink, CSA, The Better Occasions Shop, Bonbon Pastry & Cafe, Colozza’s Bakery, Fligner’s Market, Gingerbread Homes by Jon Thibo/Nick Fumic, Gypsy Beans and Baking Company, Luna Bakery Cafe, Rito’s Italian Bakery, Sugar ‘N Spice Bakery, The Grateful Dog Bakery, Welcome House Community Center Clients.

“We are grateful to Clevelanders for making Welcome House’s Gingerbread Lane part of thier family’s holiday tradition,” said Tony Thomas, executive director of Welcome House, the nonprofit sponsor of the display. “Great Northern offers us a great home to display the fine works of participating bakers.   As visitors go to Gingerbread Lane, we hope that they will be reminded of the warm and welcoming atmosphere maintained in the family-style group homes and in-home assistance programs that Welcome House operates and our goal to help folks with developmental disabilities live well-balanced and satisfying lives.”

Welcome House would like to utilize Gingerbread Lane to raise awareness for the need for group homes and the many folks who are on waiting lists for group homes.   Along with the Cuyahoga Board of Developmental Disabilities works to help find placement for adults wth developmental disabilities into homes that offer clients to live independent and fulfulling lives.  Some interesting statistics include that while many folks are on endless waiting lists for placement (currently well over 3,000 people).  The CCBDD helped to launch 57 homes in 38 municipalities that does not include group homes operated by entities like Welcome House.  This year, they served over 11,847 folks, and have much more work to ensure that everyone has a warm, safe, fulfilling and enjoyable environment.
