Welcome House Residents Display/Sell Artwork at Porter Library!

Westlake, Ohio--Welcome House residents are displaying their art masterpieces at the Porter Library in Westlake, Ohio.  In celebration of Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, residents have spent hours creating masterpieces to be sold.  All proceeds will go directly to the artists.

Statewide, and across the nation, organizations devoted to serving individuals with developmental disabilities are planning special events in March to raise public awareness of the many abilities people have, regardless of disability. “Ability at Work” encourages people to understand that when people with disabilities are welcomed into local neighborhoods, workplaces, houses of worship, and schools everyone wins.

"We have over 40 pieces of art created through our art therapy program,” said Tony Thomas, executive director of Welcome House.  “We are so proud of our residents and their hard work.  Through their art, we hope to further the public’s understanding of folks with developmental disabilities and their full potential.”

Along with the 40 pieces of artwork, photos of the residents are on display.  Artwork will be sold in the range of $25.00 -- $50.00.

“We really hope for people to take the time to look at our residents amazing accomplisments and to support their efforts and success,” said Thomas.  “We are constantly striving to raise the awareness for the need for group homes and the many folks waiting on lists for group homes.  This exhibit is just one small example of the rewarding and fulfilling lives that our residents lead.”
