Helping Kids Understand, Prevent and Manage Bullying

Is your son or daughter afraid to ride on the school bus? 
Does your child come home in tears describing a scene that happened on the playground?  Do the neighborhood kids
pick on your child or refuse to play with him or her?  Bullying comes in many forms and children
with developmental concerns are at a higher risk for being bullied; however these children are also more likely to misinterpret friendly teasing and ambiguous behaviors as “bullying.”

Led by Meghan Barlow, PhD, this discussion group will empower parents to teach their children how to understand, prevent, and manage bullying.  Unlike other bullying presentations, this talk will focus first on helping kids understand the intentions of others to determine if bullying is really taking place.  Dr. Barlow will then provide specific strategies for helping kids solve peer problems.  Finally, discussion will focus on helping parents determine if and when to intervene and advocate directly for their children.
