Hear stories about this famed Cleveland landmark Feb. 28.
Custard, Coasters and Carousels: The history of Euclid Beach Park, will be held Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. in the Porter Room at the Westlake Porter Library. Take a trip back to the good old days at Euclid Beach Park. Experts from the Western Reserve Historical Society (WRHS) will entertain the audience with stories of the golden years of this iconic Cleveland hotspot. The park was open from 1895 - 1969. The famed park was home to seven wooden roller coasters and a carouse. On April 17, 2012 the WRHS broke ground for the construction of a glass pavilion to house the restored and reassembled carousel. Popular band is performing as part of the Sunday Sounds Program.
Popular regional/local fok-rock band "Half Moon Jack" will perform this Sunday, Feb. 17 at Porter Public Library. The show is being presented by the The Friends of Westlake Porter Public Library as part of the Sunday Sounds Program. Half Moon Jack has been a part of the Cleveland music scene for many years. The band will entertain you with a unique blend of rich vocal harmonies, electric and acoustic instruments and creative percussion with pop songs spanning from The Beatles to modern music on the current charts. The performance will be in the Porter Room. Refreshments will be served following the performance.

Westlake students were well represented recently in the Cuyahoga County Scholastic Art & Writing Competition. Five Westlake High School students and four Lee Burneson Middle School (LBMS) students won Gold Key at the competition, which recognizes creative achievement of seventh to 12th grade students throughout Cuyahoga County. Senior Julianne Aprile, junior Kelsea Patterson, and sophomores Paige Dawson and Christa Beyer won Gold Key awards. Sophomore Madeline Lee won four Gold Key awards. Representing LBMS with Gold Key awards are eighth-grader Jane Fitz, who won two Gold Keys, eighth-graders Sneha Ramachandran and Ben Sposet, and seventh-grader Allie Routhier. Hilliard Elementary students enjoyed “Celebrate the Arts Day” on Friday.
On Friday, students at Hilliard Elementary School participated in “Celebrate the Arts Day.” Staci Peltz, art teacher, said the entire day was dedicated to different forms of art, from visual art to music, dance and theater. The competition is for high school students in the 16th District.
Ohio's 16th District Rep. Jim Renacci is looking for the next great artist. Renacci is encouraging Westlake High School students in the district to enter pieces of art to the 2013 Congressional Art Competition. "I encourage all interested high school age students to consider submitting a piece, and I look forwarding to seeing all of the excellent entries we get from the talented artists we have the 16th District," Renacci said in a press release. "Picking a winner will no doubt be a challenge." The winning piece will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. The exhibit will also include artwork from other winners nationwide. MSN says that Cleveland is the second coolest city in the midwest. Why is that? The article mentioned the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, the Cleveland Museum of Art's new mirrored addition and the Grog Shop in Cleveland Heights. So if you agree that when many people say Cleveland, they include the great cities around it, including Lakewood, Cleveland Heights, Mentor and Strongsville, what makes Cleveland cool?

The former US congressman will now be see all over the country on TV.
Westlake's former congressman, who had an office in Lakewood for 15 years, has packed up his boxes and moved out. Now, Dennis Kucinich is joining Fox News. The Plain Dealer reported that the 66-year-old former Cleveland mayor debuted on "The O'Reilly Factor" last week. Kucinich occupied the space at 14400 Detroit Avenue since 1997 when he began the first of his six terms in the 10th Congressional District. At the end of December, Kucinich finished his last term. Redistricting pitted Kucinich against long-time representative Marcy Kaptur, who beat him in the newly drawn North Coast district.
