Westlake Porter Library Adding Hours

Need books? Now you'll have more time to get them.

Westlake Porter Library will be open on Sundays starting August 5.

Usually, the library is closed on Sundays until Labor Day. But, after getting feedback from residents, the board of trustees voted at its June meeting to open from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sundays in August.

And, if you've ever rushed to get to the library before it closes on a Friday or Saturday in the summer, you're getting a break.

The library will now close at 6 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays instead of at 5 p.m. That's a permanent change, not just for summer.

Another factor in the decision was Westlake City Schools opening earlier this year, library director Andrew Mangels said.

“We try to meet our customers’ needs and expectations whenever we can,” Mangels said. “In this case, after analyzing the issue, we realized that it was possible, so we went ahead with the additional hours.”

Mangels also said that library officials are considering being open on Sundays all summer in 2013.
