Update: Carjacking Suspect Still in Hospital
No arraignment until medical issues are resolved, police say.
One of the suspects in Monday morning's carjacking and subsequent crash is still in the hospital recovering from injuries he suffered in the crash and subsequent struggle with police.
Proceedings against Robert Johnson of Cleveland are on hold until he is released from the St. John Medical Center. Lt. Keith Hague of Avon police said Johnson remains under police watch while he recovers.
The other suspect in the carjacking case, a 14-year-old juvenile who is believed to be Johnson's brother, is being held in a juvenile detention home, Hague said.
Charges are pending from Westlake and Avon police departments. And, Hague said, because the incident originated in Lorain County, Lorain and Cuyahoga county courts may be handling the case where the incident occurred in their jurisdictions, depending on how police and prosecutors decide to pursue the case.
At 6:28 a.m. Monday the Avon Police Department received a call from a woman that she had been assaulted in front of Laura’s Learning Treehouse on Colorado Avenue, and her car stolen.
The woman, whose name has not been released, was taken by ambulance to Avon Emergency Care Center to be treated for injuries suffered in the incident.
