As much as we'd like to hold onto summer just a little bit longer, Mother Nature has other plans.

Autumn begins at 10:49 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22.

It's been looking fall-ish around the area in recent days. Farm stands have been selling local concord grapes. Leaves on some maple trees are beginning to turn red. Some early birds even have Halloween decorations up. And garden stores have traded flats of petunias for pots of mums.

At Plant Crafters this week, workers were putting out dried corn stalks for sale, and the pumpkins are already prominent.
