Relay for Life a Night of Fun and Hope

Tenth annual event held at Recreation Center Park

A new location gave a new vibe to the tenth annual , which got underway Friday afternoon at .

The event was moved there because of the construction at Westlake High School.

A "track" was painted in on the open field behind the playground and next to the ballfield. Inside the track, tents were set up for camping, as well as for organizations invoved in the Relay and the gift basket raffle table.

Amy Brediger, co-chair for the event, said she liked the feel being on the field gave.

"It doesn't feel as enclosed," she said. "And, since this is a campout, it makes it feel more like one."

Co-chair Rick Grane had been on the scene since 8 a.m. Friday. He said the location made setting up a snap.

"People were able to drive right up and unload," he said. "Everything went smooth."

Grane said about 200 walkers and 50 survivors were participating.

One woman donated $300 for luminary in honor of a loved one. Between the luminaries, the gift basket raffle and the funds raised by walkers, Grane said the event would raise close to $20,000.
