POLL: Dick's, Walmart Halt Gun Sales After Sandy Hook Shootings

Semi-automatic rifles removed from stores and online shopping sites. Do you think this is the right decision?

In the wake of Friday's mass murder at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., two major retailers are responding.

Dick's Sporting Goods has removed all guns from its store nearest to Newtown, and has stopped sales of some semi-automatic rifles, described by Dick's as "modern sporting rifles" in its stores nationwide, including the Dick's at Crocker Park.

“We are extremely saddened by the unspeakable tragedy that occurred last week in Newtown, CT, and our hearts go out to the victims and their families, and to the entire community,” a statement on the Dick’s website said.

Walmart has removed the Bushmaster Patrolman's Carbine M4A3 Rifle from its online store.

What do you think? Should these guns be off the shelves for good? Or is this just a public image move? Take our poll and add your thoughts in the comments.

It's a mental health issue, not a gun issue. The liberals are pushing their anti-gun agenda by using the horrific deaths of the children as a method to their madness. Those of us who enjoy the shooting sports find it appalling that this knee-jerk reaction is being used without a cooling off period to think this tragedy through. They blame the tools, instead of the individual who perpetrated this crime, and that is hardly fair to the law abiding citizens of this country.

More of the morden US (weak). As America turns more weak day after day, were going to see more of this stuff. Most of us cant provide our own food and shelter. We need drugs for everything and people to tell us what and how we should live. When the circle turns complete as all things do in lfe I'll be proud to know I will still be standing. God bless the rest of you all!

It doesn't matter what retailers do. The crazy, yes, crazy, person who decides to do some dispicable act will find a way. If you think guns are the only way, you need to rethink. Household chemicals are available and in the right combos extremely lethal, you can obtain bomb making info on the web. What we need is to stop thinkng the govrnment is our protector. The best way to protect our children is to be proactive. Either arm our teachrs or have guards.....all the celebrities who spout their antigun trash are surrounded by bodyguards..,DON'T they believe their fans, OUR children deserve protection, to? Consider me my childs private, trained bodyguard!
