Beautiful music and tasty treats.

The combination worked 57 years ago and still works today, as Westlake Music Boosters' Music a la Mode fundraiser at Westlake High on Saturday was another success.

Westlake Music Boosters secretary Megan Smith said more than 1,000 tickets were sold. And that's just the adults, as kids got in for free.

Smith estimated this year's Music a la Mode would raise about $10,000 for Westlake Music Boosters. The money allows the group to buy instruments and uniforms, and also bring in specialized instructors for activities such as drumline, for Westlake City Schools music programs.

Both instrumental and vocal groups from Westlake schools performed in the high school's Performing Arts Center starting at 11 a.m. Performances went on until after 9 p.m.

There were also ice cream sundaes available, and prizes were being raffled in the cafeteria.

Longtime Westlake schools music teacher Thomas Hill, who founded Music a la Mode back in 1956, was honored during an intermission. Check out the video to see that.
