Medoros Feted as Mr. and Mrs. Westlake

Mike and Gerri Medoro stars of Town Criers party

There's no swimsuit competition or talent show in order to become Mr. and Mrs. Westlake.

The couples who earn that honor do so through service.

Mike and Gerri Medoro were honored Monday night for being Mr. and Mrs. Westlake for 2012. A dinner party was held in their honor at Mahle's by the Westlake Town Criers.

The Medoros were also presented with a proclamation by Mayor Dennis Clough declaring that Tuesday, Oct. 16, was Mike and Gerri Medoro Day in Westlake.

"We couldn't have the type of community we have without people like (the Medoros)," Clough said. "They help make this a better community with their support and involvement."

Both have been heavily involved in supporting schools, including Gerri serving on the PTA and helping other school clubs and organizations, Mike helping with public relations and website development for Westlake Boosters, and with Science Day at Bassett Elementary School. Mike has also been a coach and treasurer with Westlake Girls Softball. Both are active at St. Ladislas Church.

It's been a fun year being Mr. and Mrs. Westlake, they said.

"The whole year's been very much a hoot," Mike said. "It's wonderful to acknowledge the volunteers."

His favorite part of the year was participating in the Homecoming Parade. While they rode in a convertible as Mr. and Mrs. Westlake, their youngest daughter, Jane, a Westlake High School senior, was ahead of them on a float.

"Sharing that with her was fun," he said.

The Medoros have two other children, Alexandra, who is in medical school at Ohio State, and Andrew, a junior at Miami University.

For Gerri, this year has meant renewing old friendships.

"I've reconnected with so many people I'd worked with in volunteer work as the kids were growing up," she said. "That's been something special."

Also at Monday's dinner, Westlake Board of Education president Tom Mays was honored as Man of the Year.
