Marijuana Grow Operation Busted by Westlake Police

A Westown Boulevard man is charged with drug trafficking after police found marijuana, cash and firearms in his apartment.

Westlake police discovered a marijuana growing operation inside a Westown Boulevard apartment the evening of March 6.

After recieving a complaint from a neighbor of a constant marijuana smell and people frequently making short visits, police went to investigate, according to police reports.

When police knocked on the door of the apartment, 24-year-old Matthew Enz answered, officers could smell a strong odor of marijuana, according to the police report. Enz admitted that he had firearms in the apartment and would not consent to a search, according to Cpt. Guy Turner.

Police detained Enz while they obtained a search warrant from the Rocky River Municipal Court. Officers got the warrant the same day and found 10 marijuana plants of varying heights, a .22 caliber rifle and a 9 mm semiautomatic handgun. Officers also seized growing lights, drying equipment, harvested and packaged marijuana and cash. Some of the pot was packaged in canning jars, Turner said.

Enz was transferred to the Cuyahoga County Jail. He will face charges of drug possession, drug trafficking and having weapons under disability.
