Margot Shumway and rowing partner Sarah Trowbridge failed to qualify for the finals in the women's double sculls Monday at the 2012 Olympics in London.
Shumway and Trowbridge finished third in the second heat, with a time of 6:55.25, almost 7 seconds behind heat winners Kim Crow and Brooke Pratley of Australia, who finished in 6:48.80. The Polish team of Magdalena Fularczyk and Julia Michalska was second in 6:50.85.
Both the Australian and the Polish teams made the finals. In the first heat, teams from Great Britain and New Zealand earned spots in the finals.
But all is not lost. Shumway and Trowbridge can still make the finals in Tuesday's repechage. The six teams who did not qualify will race for spots in the finals. Only the top two finishers in the repechage advance. The finals are Friday, August 3.
