Joanne Voutsiotis, 23, of Westlake, Dies In Car Crash In Pennsylvania
The Lake Ridge Academy graduate was a postgraduate student at the University of Pittsburgh.
Joanne Voutsiotis, 23, of Westlake, died Monday, Feb. 7, as the result of a car crash in Western Pennsylvania.
According to a report in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, she drove through a stop sign at the intersection of Shenango Road and State Route 351 in Beaver Falls, PA, around 11:35 a.m. Monday. She was driving north on Shenango. Her car ran into the trailer of a truck that was headed east on S.R. 351.
Voutsiotis, a postgraduate student at the University of Pittsburgh, was pronounced dead at Heritage Valley Medical Center, Beaver, PA.
She was born July 12, 1987, in Cleveland.
As a youngster, she received a scholarship for academic excellence at the Dr. Michael A. Balourdas Hellenic Cultural School at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Rocky River.
Voutsiotis graduated from Lake Ridge Academy in North Ridgeville and Boston College. She conducted research at the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston before enrolling at Pitt to prepare for a career dentistry.
Survivors include her parents, George and Vivy; and sister, Alexia. Voutsiotis also is survived by numerous other relatives in the United States and Greece.
Calling hours are 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, at Daniel L. Berry & Donald Martens and Sons Funeral Home, 26691 Detroit Road, where Trisagion services will take place at 7:30 p.m.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 22909 Center Ridge Road, Rocky River.
