Westlake tennis champion honored by city

Not many young people fresh out of high school have their own official day.

Westlake's Colton Buffington does now.

June 29 has been declared Colton Buffington Day in the City of Westlake, in honor of the recent graduate who won the state tennis singles title this season.

Mayor Dennis Clough read the proclamation at Thursday's Board of Education meeting.

"You've given us another reason to be proud of Westlake," Clough told him.

Buffington went a perfect 30-0 en route to the state title. He recalled being asked about how it felt to finally win the state title after four years of making states.

"I didn't win (that day)," Buffington said. "I won a thousand days before this, working hard, being around people who have high values."
