Are you a bibliophile? Love your library? Now you can “get the scoop” the Westlake Porter Public Library levy renewal.
Attendees can show support at the levy renewal campaign kickoff event on Thursday, March 7.
An “evening of ice cream” at Mitchell’s Ice Cream in Westlake will be held from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Sponsored by the Porter Public Library Levy Campaign, organizers are hoping attendees will offer to help with the levy and get information before the May 7 election.
“I’m inviting the public to the Westlake Mitchell's to buy an ice cream, pick up some free giveaways, and ask questions about the library's renewal levy,” Jennifer Cirincione, the campaign publicity chair said.
Free cone certificates are available to the first 25 people, donated by a member of the levy committee. After, it’s “buy your own cone.”
“Come enjoy a warm-weather treat and celebrate the kick-off of the upcoming May 7, 2013 election campaign,” Cirincione said of the event which will include giveaways and a coloring contest for children up to age 10. (See attached PDF of coloring contest picture and rules.)

About the levy
Westlake’s Porter Public Library voters is asking for support to approve a five-year, 2.8-mill renewal levy on May. 7. The levy will be used for funding operations at the Library.
If approved, the levy would generate $3.82 million per year to help support the library’s $4.7 million annual budget.
The current levy, approved in 2008, expires at the end of 2013. That levy earned a 57.6 approval from voters.
Homeowners would pay $85.75 annually.
Library officials said they did not want to see an increase in the levy this year. The 2008 levy represented a .3-mill increase.
The heavily used library saw more than half a million visitors last year.
