'Fifty Shades of Grey' Book-Burning: #1 Story of 2012
Both the book and the idea of book-burning were hot topics.
Combine sex, a shock jock and some lighter fluid, and you've got controversy.
WMMS radio host Alan Cox hosted a book-burning party for the best-selling novel, Fifty Shades of Grey, at Panini's in Westlake. That event, and the resulting furor over the idea of a book-burning, made this the most popular story on Westlake Patch in 2012.
More than 100 fans showed up for the event. Panini's is a regular host of Cox's weekly post-show parties.
The novel, and its two sequels, were both criticized and loved for its graphic, intense portrayal of sex, dominance and submission, bondage and sado-masochism.
Cox said that his listeners were part of a backlash against the series, saying that both men and women who called into his show hated the books.

WMMS is a Clear Channel radio station. It's funny that Clear Channel would encourage an act of censorship like a book burning after defending Rush Limbaugh's right to call college students 'sluts'.
