Construction Worker Dead in I-90 Crash

Investigation continues into crash at Nagel Road interchange project that killed worker and shut down I-90 westbound for almost five hours

Avon police are continuing to investigate a crash that killed a construction worker at the Nagel interchange construction site on Interstate 90 Wednesday morning.

According to Avon/Avon Lake Patch, the crash happened around 9:15 a.m. on I-90 west.

Witnesses told police that the worker was putting up tarps in the work zone when the crash happened, the Plain Dealer said. The Chronicle-Telegram reported that the man's leg had been amputated, and that he was taken to EMH Avon Emergency Care Center, where he died.

Avon/Avon Lake Patch reported that the construction worker, a 63-year-old man, has not been identified as his family had not been notified as of Wednesday evening.

The two drivers involved in the crash have been identified.

I-90's westbound lanes were shut down at the Crocker Road interchange in Westlake to the Route 83 interchange in Avon until shortly after 2 p.m.

Traffic was heavy at the Crocker interchange as drivers detoured through Westlake into Avon. Detroit Road was bumper-to-bumper from near Bradley Road to Route 83 until after I-90 was reopened.
