Breast Cancer Fundraiser Part of Weekend Fun

Have fun, help some good causes or do both!

  1. Helping fight breast cancer can be just plain fun, like at Friday evening's Stamp Out Breast Cancer event at Stamper's Bar in Fairview Park. Stamp Out Breast Cancer is hosted by Think Pink 2013 and proceeds will go to the Susan G. Komen 3 Day. There will be live music, dancing, a 50/50 raffle and other raffles. There will also be pink beer and pink cocktails, with a portion of the price going to the Susan G. Komen 3 Day.
  2. Kathy's Kolacke and Pastry Shop is hosting Book and Bark at the Bakery, a fundraiser for Berea APL on Saturday. Plain Dealer columnist Michael Heaton will be there, signing copies of his book. The Ralph Szubski Band will provide live music. Dogs are welcome.
  3. With just one loss, the Westlake High football team hopes to get closer to the playoffs by beating Berea in Friday's 7 p.m. home game.
  4. Get some holiday shopping done, and maybe find a treat for yourself, at the National Council of Jewish Women Designer Dress Days on Friday and Sunday at Mandel Jewish Community Center in Beachwood.
  5. Introduce the kids to some good music as the Rocky River Chamber Music Society presents a concert for children at 2 p.m. Sunday with music accompanying readings from classic children's books Where the Wild Things AreGoodnight Moon; and Harold and the Purple Crayon

People give Susan G. Komen money to fight breast cancer and Susan G. Komen gives some of that donated money to the babykillers at Planned Parenthood. I don't think people who give money to Susan G. Komen to fight breast cancer, know their money is going to an abortion organization that kills unborn babies.

I don't think people know how aggressive Susan G. Komen is about going after other organizations who are also trying to find a cure for cancer.

Susan G. Komen Foundation Elbows Out Charities Over Use Of The Word 'Cure'

"In addition to raising millions of dollars a year for breast cancer research, fundraising giant Susan G. Komen for the Cure has a lesser-known mission that eats up donor funds: patrolling the waters for other charities and events around the country that use any variation of "for the cure" in their names.

So far, Komen has identified and filed legal trademark oppositions against more than a hundred of these Mom and Pop charities, including Kites for a Cure, Par for The Cure, Surfing for a Cure and Cupcakes for a Cure--and many of the organizations are too small and underfunded to hold their ground.

"It happened to my family," said Roxanne Donovan, whose sister runs Kites for a Cure, a family kite-flying event that raises money for lung cancer research. "They came after us ferociously with a big law firm. They said they own 'cure' in a name and we had to stop using it, even though we were raising money for an entirely different cause."

Not very nice behavior for an 'non-profit' organization that pays its CEO $500 million+ a year.
